The Lighthouse is a community interest company

Built by members of the community, for the community

While The Lighthouse doesn't have any full-time staff it does have two people who are ultimately responsible for it and wanted to make it happen! We are Louise Thompson and Cathy Debenham, the joint founders and your Lighthouse Keepers.

We are both corporate escapees; now passionate about running own own businesses in the Sid Valley. Our desire for a local, inspiring workspace, the energy and collaboration of a community of like-minded entrepreneurs, and the conviction that many other local business owners could benefit from it too, provided the impetus for us to set up and run The Lighthouse.

Our job is to keep an eye on the marketing, cashflow, admin and events. All Crew Members are expected to lend a hand in keeping the workspace clean and tidy, and ensuring that it is a pleasant, inclusive place to work and network. Everyone is encouraged to actively participate in, and organise, events for the community. The more we put in the more we all get out!

We are committed to making The Lighthouse affordable and accessible for all local business owners to benefit from. Community Interest Companies are not-for-private-profit organisations, and any profits will be reinvested into the business.

We are grateful to Devon Work Hubs which gave us a grant to help with the some of the capital costs of setting up The Lighthouse. We are also very grateful to those who supported us with their time, energy and expertise renovating The Lighthouse space and getting it ship shape for the crew!
